Overview

Cascade only uses what it needs to run your account, your plan and updates. We don't sell anything about you, we don't show ads and we don't track you around the web.

Your account

To make an account you choose a username and give an email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash, never in readable form.

Your profile and forum activity, like your display name, profile picture and posts, are shown on the site because that's what they're for.

Purchases

When you buy a plan we keep a record of what you bought, when and for how much, so your plan works and your purchase history shows on your account. Card payments go straight to Stripe and crypto payments to BTCPay Server; we never see your full card details.

The Cascade app

While you're signed in, the app checks in with our servers now and then to confirm your plan and its device limit. These checks send an identifier created from your computer (not your name or hardware serial numbers), the app version and basic technical and security information.

The app also asks our website for updates and news. If an update fails, it lets us know the version numbers and what went wrong.

Crash reports

If Cascade ever crashes, it asks whether you want to send a crash report. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it. A report contains technical details about the crash and your app and Windows versions, and is used only to fix the problem.

The website

Like any website, ours receives your IP address and basic browser details when you visit. We use them to keep the site secure and working, for example to slow down repeated sign in attempts.

We use a sign in cookie and a cookie that remembers your light or dark theme. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Who else is involved

Only the services that help run Cascade: Stripe for card payments, our hosting and network providers, and BTCPay Server, which we run ourselves. We'd also share information if the law required it.

On your computer

Cascade keeps only your settings and your encrypted sign in on your computer. It doesn't keep logs.

The video player loads the videos you open from YouTube, and YouTube's own privacy policy applies to what it receives.

How long things are kept

Your account stays until you ask us to remove it. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for accounting. Technical records on our servers are only kept for a short time.

Your choices

You can change your profile from your account page and sign out of any device. To get a copy of your account details or to delete your account, contact us through the forum.

Changes

We may update this policy. When we make a significant change we'll post it on the site and update the date at the top.
